What we practise

Five strands, one practice

Hatha yoga is not a style of exercise with some breathing attached. It is a single integrated method, and the weekend treats it that way — each strand supporting and preparing the next.

01

Hatha Philosophy

Darshana

The framework beneath the postures. We read from the Hatha Yoga Pradipika and Patanjali's Yoga Sutras, not as historical curiosity but as a working manual for attention, ethics and effort.

What you will take away

  • Understand what 'Hatha' actually means and how it differs from modern studio yoga
  • Work with the eight limbs as a practical sequence rather than a hierarchy
  • Apply yama and niyama to ordinary decisions off the mat
  • Recognise the classical purpose of asana — preparation for stillness
02

Asana

Sthira Sukham Asanam

Steady and comfortable posture. Slow, held shapes with real attention to alignment, breath and the honest limits of your own body — never performance, never force.

What you will take away

  • Refine alignment in the classical standing, seated and supine postures
  • Use props intelligently so a shape serves you rather than the reverse
  • Identify your own compensation patterns and work with them safely
  • Build a home sequence appropriate to your body and available time
03

Pranayama

Extension of Life Force

Breath regulation as the bridge between body and mind. We move carefully from simple diaphragmatic breathing to ratio work and gentle retention, with clear contraindications throughout.

What you will take away

  • Establish full, unforced diaphragmatic breathing at rest and in posture
  • Practise nadi shodhana, ujjayi, bhramari and kapalabhati with correct technique
  • Understand the bandhas and when retention is and isn't appropriate
  • Know the contraindications for your own health circumstances
04

Meditation

Dhyana

Sitting practice built from the ground up — posture first, then breath, then the quieter work of watching the mind without arguing with it. Includes guided yoga nidra.

What you will take away

  • Find a sustainable seated posture you can hold without strain
  • Move through the stages of dharana into dhyana with a reliable anchor
  • Experience yoga nidra and understand how to use it for genuine rest
  • Leave with a realistic daily sit you will actually maintain
05

Sound Healing

Nada Yoga

Himalayan singing bowls, gong and chime received lying in full support. Sound as a doorway into the parasympathetic state that the rest of the weekend has been preparing.

What you will take away

  • Experience an extended immersion in bowl, gong and chime resonance
  • Understand nada yoga and the role of sound in the Hatha tradition
  • Recognise how the nervous system responds to sustained resonance
  • Learn simple vocal toning you can practise at home
